FTP Server

To facilitate the transfer of large amounts of data to and from LalPac, LalPac operate an FTP server. The IP address of the LalPac FTP server is 81.168.65.3.

For security reasons a login name and password are required to access this server. If accessing for the first time or if your password has expired, please contact LalPac for your login name and / or password. In the interests of security all files will automatically be deleted after 10 days and passwords are automatically changed on a regular basis.

Accessing the LalPac ftp server from Unix / Linux

For Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP we recommended that you use the command line ftp client. To do this first open a command prompt window and then follow the instructions shown below.   For Unix systems, we recommended you run ftp from a terminal session with the instructions below, after setting "passive" mode before issuing any other commands. Passive can be set by issuing passive.
     

Connecting to the LalPac ftp server:

Before connecting to the LalPac ftp server, change your local drive and directory from the current default drive and directory to the drive and directory you wish to either upload a file from or download a file to e.g.

Next connect to the LalPac ftp server

If your connection is successful you will receive the following prompt:

Enter your login name (NB case sensitive!)

If your login name is valid you will receive the following prompt:

Enter your passsword and press Return.

If your login name is invalid you will receive the following prompt:

Type 'bye' and go back to the start of the instructions.

If your login is succesful you will receive the following prompt:

Uploading a file to the LalPac ftp server:

To obtain a visual indication of the file transfer progressing we recommend you enter:

If the command is succesful you will receive the following prompt:

To upload the file to LalPac, change directory to "incoming"

Use 'put' to upload the file:

Once you have completed the file upload please email support@lalpac.com to advise them the file is now available.

Downloading a file from the LalPac ftp server:

To download a file from LalPac:

Change directory to 'outgoing'

Use get to download the file:

To disconnect enter 'bye' and press Return:

Troubleshooting problems when connecting to the LalPac ftp server:

If you can not connect to the LalPac ftp server common issues are:

  • The LalPac ftp server is a passive server. Many FTP clients need to be told the FTP server is "passive" to correctly connect to the LalPac FTP server.
  • Many firewalls block the ftp protocol. If you are unable to connect to the LalPac ftp server please check the settings of your firewall before contacting the LalPac support team.
  • If your firewall uses a proxy server and you wish to upload files then you will need to make sure that the proxy server is NOT read only.
If you are using Internet Explorer, you will need to enable passive FTP
  • On the Tools menu, select internet options
  • Then select the advanced tab
  • In the list just above 'HTTP 1.1 settings', find 'Use passive FTP' and untick it
  • Then type ftp://81.168.65.3 into the address bar
  • Click 'OK' to the message
  • On the file menu, select 'login as'. This will ask you for your username and password.
